Setting Up Slack for AI-Powered Reference Requests

Let your team submit reference requests directly from Slack — no logging into UserEvidence Advocacy required. The AI will pull from your Advocate CRM and opportunity data to surface the best matching references in seconds. Setup takes about 2 minutes.

Before you start

You'll need:

  • UserEvidence Advocacy admin access (to install integrations)

  • Slack workspace permissions to install apps, or an admin who can approve the install for you

  • A Slack channel ready for reference requests — like #reference-requests, or a test channel if you want to try it first. You can change channels or add more later.

Step 1 — Have a channel ready

Before starting, have a Slack channel ready for reference requests. If you don't have one yet, create one now (e.g. #reference-requests). If you'd prefer to test the integration first, create a test channel instead.

You can always change it or add the bot to more channels later.

Step 2 — Open Integrations in UserEvidence Advocacy

From the left-hand sidebar in the admin dashboard, navigate to Tools → Integrations.

Step 3 — Click Connect on the Slack tile

Find the Slack tile and click Connect.

Step 4 — Click "Connect with Slack" & Choose your channel

On the next page, click Connect with Slack. This opens Slack's official authorization flow. Click the Search for a channel… field and choose the channel you prepared in Step 1. Don't worry if you change your mind — you can switch channels or add the bot to more channels later.

Heads up: If nothing happens when you click, check that your browser isn't blocking popups.

Step 5 — Click Allow

Review the permissions, then click Allow to grant the bot the access it needs.

Step 6 — Confirmation

You'll be redirected back to UserEvidence Advocacy and shown a confirmation that the integration is active.

Step 7 — Try it out with /reference

Head to the channel in Slack and type:

/reference

To add the bot to more channels later, type /invite @UserEvidence Advocacy (Zealot) in any channel.

Step 8 — Fill out the request

The form will ask for:

  • Opportunity ID from Salesforce

  • Prospect's email

  • Deadline

  • Optional context for the AI (e.g. specific products, use case, industry)

Step 9 — Get your matches

The bot will pull from your Advocate CRM and opportunity data and surface the best matching references within seconds to a couple of minutes. Choose the reference that fits and you're done.

Tip: Turn on moderation

If you'd like to review references before they're shared, enable moderation in the UE Advocacy Admin dashboard (Settings → References). Once enabled, approval requests will be automatically routed to either a Slack channel or a specific account manager/CSM — keeping the whole workflow inside Slack.

Troubleshooting

  • The /reference command isn't doing anything. The bot probably isn't in the channel yet. Type /invite @UserEvidence Advocacy (Zealot) in the channel and try again.

  • "Connect with Slack" button doesn't open anything. Check your browser's popup blocker and allow popups for UserEvidence Advocacy.

  • The integration connected to the wrong Slack workspace. Sign out of Slack in your browser, then start over from Step 2. Slack will prompt you to choose the correct workspace this time.

  • The channel I want isn't showing up in the dropdown. Private channels won't appear until the bot is invited. Use /invite @UserEvidence Advocacy (Zealot) in the channel, then try connecting again.

  • No matches are coming back. Double-check the opportunity ID is correct and that you have advocates in your CRM that match the prospect's industry or use case. Adding more context in the optional AI field usually helps.
