What is a blast?
A blast is a one-way email to your advocates — you're sharing something, not asking them to complete a task. There's no reward to earn, no survey to fill out, no action required on their end. It's the simplest engagement type: pick your audience, pick (or write) a template, and send.
Use a blast whenever you want to reach people without adding friction or an ask.
When to use it (ideas)
Announcements — a new feature, product launch, pricing change, or company news you want in front of your most engaged customers first.
Community newsletter — a recurring monthly or quarterly update on what's new, what's coming, and wins worth celebrating.
Event invites — webinars, user conferences, regional meetups, or AMAs. Recipients opt in on their own, so you're not assigning them anything.
Recognition — spotlight an advocate, share a customer story, or thank the group after a big push.
Content drops — a new case study, benchmark report, or resource you want advocates to see.
Reminders — perks they haven't claimed, points worth redeeming, or a deadline coming up.
Relationship touchpoints — holiday notes, program anniversaries, or a simple "here's what we've been up to."
Rule of thumb: if there's no task attached, it's a blast. If you need advocates to do something — answer a question, leave a reference, take a survey — use the engagement type built for that instead.
How to send one
Go to the Engagements tab.
Click Create Engagement.
Select the blast engagement type — the notification-only option. Advocates won't be asked to take any action in return.
Set the audience. Choose Anyone to reach everyone in your community, or narrow it to a specific segment (see below).
Click Send Notification.
Choose one of your existing templates, or create a new one from scratch. Templates save you from rewriting the same email every time — build it once, reuse it everywhere.
Review and send.
Going further: auto-trigger emails with dynamic segments
You don't have to send every email by hand. A dynamic segment is a group whose membership updates automatically based on criteria you set — things like role, company, product line, or recent activity. As new advocates match those criteria, they drop into the segment on their own.
From there, you can wire an email to fire automatically when someone enters the segment. This is especially powerful for invite emails, where the goal is to reach the right person the moment they qualify rather than chasing a list manually. A few ways to use it:
Auto-invite new advocates who match a target persona, so onboarding emails go out the instant they qualify.
Welcome sequences that trigger when someone lands in a "New Members" segment.
Targeted plays — send a tailored invite when an advocate's company or usage matches a specific campaign you're running.
The payoff: instead of sending a one-time blast, you define the segment once and the right email reaches the right people automatically, on an ongoing basis, as they qualify.
