Overview

AI Questions turn a single survey prompt into a dynamic conversation. Instead of asking everyone the same follow-up questions, UserEvidence uses AI to probe deeper based on what each respondent actually says — so you capture the nuance that standard surveys miss.

Setting Up an AI Question

  1. Add the question type: In the survey editor, select AI Conversation as your question type.

  2. Define your goal: Write a prompt that describes the insight you're looking for. You don't need to script the questions — the AI determines what to ask in real time based on how each respondent answers.

  3. Set a conversation limit: Choose a maximum number of follow-up questions to keep the experience from feeling overwhelming. The conversation will end naturally before that limit if the respondent has already covered the ground.

The Respondent Experience

Customers see a conversational interface where they can type their answers or use voice-to-text. The AI responds to what they say, asking follow-ups only where their answer warrants it. The result feels less like a survey and more like a quick conversation.

Reviewing Responses

Once responses come in, view the full conversation thread in the respondent drawer or dropdown menu. Each AI conversation is saved as structured Q&A data, ready to analyze and publish as a testimonial.

When to Use AI Questions

AI Questions work best when you want depth over standardization. For example:

  • Post-purchase feedback — let the AI dig into what mattered most about the experience

  • Feature discovery — explore pain points and desired outcomes without leading the respondent

  • Win/loss analysis — uncover decision criteria through natural follow-up

  • Customer interviews — replace manual follow-up questions with dynamic AI probing

Note: AI Questions aren't the right fit for every scenario. If you need every respondent to answer the exact same questions — for compliance reasons or highly standardized data collection — stick with traditional question types.

FAQs

  • Does voice-to-text work on mobile? Yes, and it works especially well on mobile where typing long responses is friction-heavy. It requires microphone permissions and a supported browser.

  • Can I use AI Questions alongside standard questions? Yes. AI Questions work as standalone questions or as intelligent follow-ups to existing questions in your survey.

  • How are AI conversation responses stored? Each conversation is automatically saved as structured Q&A pairs, the same way standard responses are, so you can analyze and publish them without any extra steps.
